So I wanted to add some content to this site (And some DnD content in particular) so I figured "why not talk about my campaign?" That and I genuinely like how the campaign I'm in has been structured. If you like reading about worldbuilding or just interested in more DnD stuff, read on!
Background Info
This campaign is a bit interesting. We have 5 DM's. It originally started out as 3, but slowly the other players also wanted to DM. We work on a rotation, and general rules and cost of items are determined as a group, but other than that most things are just left up to individual DMs to decide on. It's also understood by the players that each DM might rule on things slightly differently than each other. When you're not the DM, you act as just a player and go by whatever the DM decides. The DM may ask for the opinion of others if they want, but whoever is leading that session has final say on things. The goal is that each DM runs a one shot, but it often turns into at least 2 or three sessions per DM.
Meet the Team
So let's meet the team. I've changed everyone's name but mine, as I haven't run this idea past them yet.
-
Mike and Jake : Min maxers with a lot of experience with DnD and other board games. A huge wealth of knowledge me and the other DMs rely on.
-
Brooke : Dating Jake but very new to DnD. Slowly learning the ropes and really developing her own style with both DMing and being a player
-
Allison : Dating Mike and has a decent amount of experience with DnD. Loves art in general and loves creating scenarios that get us out in nature
-
Steven (Myself) : I've known about DnD and played here and there for years, but only got really into it within the last couple of years. Largely don't know much about DnD items or monsters RAW, and homebrew a lot
World Info
The way we structured this world is very loose, with a lot of the lore getting filled in as we run sessions. What is locked down though is that in this world there is the GUILD (Greatest Unrestrained Independent League of Defenders) as well as GUILD stations around the world. Located in the main city of Yoroto, the GUILD is known to have the best adventurers in all the realm! People choose to join largely either due to seeking renown, wanting to adventure, or it's just been the family business. Given its size, the GUILD has access to pretty much any items you would want as an adventurer, making it very desirable to be on their good side. Given how popular it is, most people who have a quest or want something done, tell the GUILD about it so that some of the adventurers will hopefully take up that quest. There's sort of a job board individuals can pick from and choose which quest they'd like to do. There are smaller, local chapters of the GUILD throughout the world, if people do not want to travel all the way to Yoroto. The GUILD rarely forces adventurers to take quests, but occasionally it is needed.
Meet the Characters
Because of how we structured the world, players often have multiple characters they'll use and just switch them out between quests. It's nice sometimes to get a breath of fresh air and change up your play style, or try something new. So, without further ado:-
Bayor (Played by Steven): An Aaracockra Monk who is scared of death, Bayor has taken it upon himself to try and find a way out of dying. What makes this increasingly difficult, is he's constantly reminded of his mortality because he can see and speak with ghosts. A huge scaredy cat, Bayor has no problem leaving a group behind if he fears for his own life.
-
Clyde (Played by Steven): A human fighter, Clyde can also see and speak with ghosts, but has become emboldened by it. He feels indestructible and is ready to show the world how amazing he truly is
-
Esau (Played by Mike): An Eladrin Half-Elf Mage/ Blade singer (Flavor texted to be a ninja) is a hard man to describe. With his four seasons, his personality can change wildly from one session to the next. Overall, he's very keen on finding (and maintaining) one of his clans most prized possessions: The Moonblade
-
Kai (Played by Allison): Is a Half-elf Lycan Blessed Bloodhunter. She's often found in her tiger form skulking around, ready to pounce on anyone who gets in her way. Desperate to prove she's better than her sister, she's out here to make a name for herself. She also has a strong distaste in men, and will go out of her way to protect any women she feels is being threatened or pressured by one. Kai's primal side sometimes causes her to lose herself, and attack those around her.
-
Kendrik (Played by Mike): A human Paladin who is all about getting swole and bettering oneself. A strong fighter, he's become an adventurer to spread the word of his God, Temer
-
Nori (Played by Brooke): A Water Genasi Barbarian, Nori is a force to be reckoned with. Her father is an extremely infamous Pirate King, and as such she also carries a bit of a reputation. She feels at home in the water and at sea but wanted to join the GUILD to see more of what was out there, and make a name for herself. She also has a strong desire to fight anyone she perceives as "Very strong". Gets along famously well with Kai.
-
Linguine (Played by Jake): Brother of Soba, he's a bit of a short, catboy, dragonrider ranger. He's determined to prove himself better than Soba, and has been largely spending his time in the nations military, as well as honing in his skills in archery and riding.
-
Soba (Played by Jake): Soba is a sort of halfling cat boy, mostly bard but a little bit of warlock. His signature move is his magical bow, which he learned from his mom. His mom owns a well known restaurant nearby to the GUILD, and Soba often got to see and interact with adventurers. Once he became of age, he decided to head out into the world to largely find new types of food and ingredients he could bring home.
-
Talinth (Played by Steven): Talinth is a homebrewed race and class called the Iceborn. Hailing from the frozen north, the iceborn are rarely seen outside of the arctic circle, and are largely nomadic and only stay within a familial unit. Talinth had decided he wanted to see what else was in the world, hoping there'd be more than just wandering around an endless white landscape.
Wrap up
Okay, I think that's enough for now. I'll get into the adventurers next week. I hope this is useful or at least a good read for some of you out there!
