Hello, so I want to create some content for this website and the easiest thing for me to do is tell you about my DnD campaign! I'll link below to previous posts if you're curious, but basically I'm hoping to put out a post for as long as I can giving the story of an adventure our party has gone on.
This first post starts off not from our first session, but from a couple of DM changes in. Originally, no one was taking notes on our games, and so the first couple of sessions I don't quite remember. If this sounds interesting to you, keep on reading!
The Forest Path
Esau, Soba, Nori, and Kai all were looking at the note that was on the job board for this quest. It was from the mayor of a nearby forest called Clavair, requesting immediate help. The town had been under attack every night from seemingly more and more kobolds. The towns local guard had so far been able to hold them off, but collateral damage to the town and injuries from fighting the kobolds were beginning to weaken the town significantly. Not wanting for innocent people to suffer, the group decided to take up the quest and make their way to Clavair.
Lucky for them, Clavair was only about a days walk away, along a pretty well beaten path through a forest. As they made their way through the forest, they eventually met a woodcutter at his camp. He told them his name was Jerry, and that he was out here to clear the trees away so that they could widen the road between Clavair and Yoroto. He had with him a horse he inherited from his Father, and a puppy he had found while in the woods. The group questioned him a bit about if he had seen anything unusual, but he informed them he had not.
The team kept making their way through the forest and came up to the entrance to the town. Stationed outside, was a camp of Moose Guard- Bipedal Guards that looked like a mix between Human and Moose (Imagine Bojack horseman style of character design, but top half of a moose). Speaking with who seemed to be the head guard, they found out his name was Sir Gil and this group of Moose Guard had been tasked with exploring the forest, to try and determine why some people had gone missing recently. Esau noted there were a lot more tents than Moose Guard, to which the guards all sort of looked away awkwardly before one of them mentioned that's because some of them hadn't come back from previous nights exploring. During these conversations, Kai tried to let her pet panther explore the campsite, however all of the guards got immediately defensive, pointing spears at the panther, to which Kai grabbed the panther and went into town, with the rest of the party.
Clavair
Once in the town, the team sort of split up to see what they could find out, as well as to try and find the mayor. Kai hit up a local blacksmith, who was very happy to have someone interested in his work. Most of the townsfolk seemed to be Human, but the blacksmith was a Dragonborn. He's unsure of how he got there himself, but knows he was raised by the town from a young age. He now used his fiery breath to help make weapons and armor for the town and its guards. He was so taken by Kai, he offered her a special item if she returned after protecting the town.
While Kai was talking with the Blacksmith, Soba made his way into a local cafe. It was there he discovered a completely new and wonderful ingredient - Maple Syrup. The bartender and owner was overjoyed to have someone to talk about his craft with, and quickly made up some pancakes for Soba to try. Some of the other group members joined Soba in the cafe as he got to enjoy this amazing meal. Soba also helped stand up for the bartender later in the day, earning him maple alcohol after he helped defend the town. He also gave Soba an ounce of maple syrup for the road.
Esau quickly tracked down the mayor and got the scoop from him. Each night, Kobolds had been attacking the town in sort of waves, each bigger than the last. While the Moose Guard have been doing a tremendous job so far, they weren't going to be able to hold out forever, and would like the GUILD members to find a way to put a stop to this permanently. He promised that, if they at least helped protect the town, he would reward them. If they could find a way to put an end to this permanently, then the reward would be even better. Esau also inquired about who or what the Moose Guard were, given he had never seen these people outside of this town. The Mayor sidestepped a lot of the questions, but Esau learned that the Moose Guard were loyal to the Mayor in particular, and had agreed to help defend the town while he was in charge.
Kai had joined Esau while he was talking with the mayor, and they now both went off into the town to interrogate the locals about what was happening. Esau took a pretty... Direct approach and started accusing each towns person of being involved in these attacks. Most of them didn't take him seriously, and the blacksmith got a bit offended at him. Kai helped Esau a bit with this, but largely played with some cows that were in a nearby barn.
With the team having explored most of the town, they went out to the north end of town (Where the invasion was coming from), and met up with two of the Moose Guard helping them for the night - Chip and Skip. On their way, Soba summoned two spectral rats to patrol different sides of the town, in case Kobolds managed to get around them.
The Battle
The battle was long, but not particularly interesting. Preparing for the attack, Soba made a tiny hut right in the gateway to get into the town. The Moose Guard largely stayed in the tiny hut shooting arrows, but did come out a couple of times to help. Kai, Esau, and Nori all had time to show off their prowess in battle, and were able to kill slews of Kobolds with little to no problem. Kai and Nori in particularly really came into their own.
During the last wave of fighting, a mysterious stranger showed up at the battle field. He was dressed in wizard robes and apologized for being late. He stood near the Moose Guard and began chanting... Something. Nori recognized it as Primordial, and recognized one of the words as "armor". Being suspicious and unsure of what this man was doing, she instructed Esau to go talk with him. As he approached, the man saw the rest of the team capture the Kobold Commander on the field of battle. Seeing that, the man disappeared before Esau could reach him. Upon investigation, Esau could tell there was strong magic used, but outside of that could not tell much.
The Aftermath
During the battle, the team had managed to capture 5 Kobolds and the Kobold Commander. The team began interrogating them, however they were extremely reluctant. The team immediately executed one of the kobolds who had voluntarily put down his weapons, which caused the Commander to be more cooperative. He told them that the Kobolds were under orders to evacuate their homelands and move South, and to clear a path for their elders. With him not knowing much more than this, Esau began tracking down where they were coming from, and found a cavern.
The other team members caught up with Esau and discussed what to do about the situation. They eventually came up with a plan. Using a map the commander had given them, the team knew that this cavern only had one entrance and exit. So, Soba made another tiny hut right in the opening to prevent anyone from escaping. Once that was done, the team slept for the night.
The next morning, the team decided Esau and Nori would go in to try and convince the Kobolds there was a better way than attacking. The Kobolds, in a rare moment of wisdom, did not attack Esau and Nori immediately, and instead brought out another Kobold Commander. This commander also saw the wisdom in not attacking, and made plans for a messenger to be sent back to the elders to see if they could work with The GUILD on relocation efforts. Esau also used the "Suggestion" spell on the commander to learn more info on how many Kobolds there were, and took half of their weapons. Esau and Nori made a hasty retreat as they told the commander he was locked in via Tiny Hut.
Once again together in the Tiny Hut, the group sent Nori and Kai off to town to inform the Mayor the plan with the Kobolds. The mayor agreed he would not attack the kobolds while awaiting for word from the Kobold higher command. Nori and Kai went back to the team, informed them the mayor agreed, informed the Kobolds the mayor agreed, and took down the Tiny Hut.
On their way out of town, they collected their rewards from the Mayor- 500 gold each and a Mayoral Letter of Character. Kai also received an extendo blade from the Blacksmith. This blade looked like a normal long sword, however when the command word is given, extends itself up to 20 feet, while remaining perfectly balanced.
