audacity isn't spyware omg
they had planned on doing opt-out telemetry and that was shot down basically immediately 3 years ago. it's default opt-in now and if you turn it on it isn't like, logging keystrokes or anything lol. i'm probably still gonna switch to a fork to avoid the cloud storage whatever thing they're putting in, but audacity is not stealing any meaningful data. it's open source, go look for yourself
this keeps happening with tech shit where people hear fearmongering paraphrases of headlines that often don't get stories quite right. so you have people going around thinking cohost has the most evil ToS the christian devil ever wrote, or that audacity is stealing all of your podcast recording data to sell to the chinese
trust me i mean, i was nervous when i heard muse group bought audacity. and i was very nervous when i heard about the telemetry. but then i spent a few minutes and looked into it. you have to remember to look into things yourself. just this morning, i got baited by some fake post because i chose to follow my gut instead of looking into it. it can happen to everyone! but you gotta try to get into the habit
the important thing to remember is that every small group or open source project is spyware and evil and stealing your data, which is why you should only use the programs that megacorps make, because microsoft, apple, facebook, etc definitely NEVER do anything shady
