So I was at Hannaford earlier and saw a free newspaper The Bridge. I decided to pick up a copy because, why not. I also noticed the front page was about the closing of a homeless encampment which, I feel like over the past few years there's been a lot of these stories.

Looking into The Bridge some more, I was able to find an rss feed for it (which I'll link this text with for ya'll if you want) and begun reading the story about the Encampment closure (City Moves to Clear County Club Road Encampment)

And I came across a quote that I really liked and so wanted to share:

“I don’t care if they are in the woods. If they are happy in the woods, leave them alone,” Parham said. She said some people’s needs are given more consideration than others, such as the need for a tent shelter versus the need for a place to play disc golf.

And this is one of those things that always comes to mind when I read these stories. I've not interacted with the homeless community basically at all, but I always thought if they're just camping somewhere like... idk just leave them? They have literally nothing else.

@M00se0nTheLoose asked:

Did you get hit with the flooding last night where you are?

not much in town that i'm aware of. would not be surprised if the Winooski is running stupid high today. hope the farms down in the intervale are alright.

everything okay by you i hope?

heard on the radio about the power outages. at least one dead. farms flooded and crops washed away. sometimes i have to remember how shielded i am living in Burlington. up on a hill with urban infrastructure surrounded by the rest of the Champlain Valley. flooding almost never happens here. i am fortunate, most of the state is not as lucky.

governor's emergency address asked everyone to report damages to https://vermont211.org/ cataloguing it will help the state get federal disaster relief. please keep yourself and your community safe.

I'll have to get some photos I took to post later, but I'm in Barre and yeah... we got hit hard. Surreal to see the streets turn into rivers, especially given it was exactly 1 year since the last devastating floods. So many places weren't rebuilt from it last year yet. Though this flooding wasn't as bad I don't think at least?

My apartment is on the second floor though. The worst part is the basement of our building flooded, which is where things like the water heater and electrical panels are. Our downstairs neighbor was saying there's now a hole in the wall of our basement.

All of our stuff is good though. I had to move a car at one point, but other than that everything is fine luckily. Just scary to experience - especially once the water was high because it's like... what do you even do at that point other than hope your house remains standing.
