don't even start arguing about the Web advertising stuff that Mozilla pulled recently, yes it sucks but it's way less bad than what Google is doing with Chrome. If you want to use a random fork of Firefox over it I don't care and that won't stop me from telling "regular people" to just use Firefox, non-computer touchers shouldn't daily drive a random fork of a web browser imo okbyeeee

They say Disney's case "is based on the incredible argument that any person who signs up for a Disney+ account, even free trials that are not extended beyond the trial period, will have forever waived the right to a jury trial".

The argument that this can be extended to wrongful death or personal injury claims "borders on the surreal," according to the legal filing.

tl;dr: if you have ever signed up for a free trial of disney+, disney is arguing that they can essentially legally murder you

One of the most egregious examples of tech companies being shitty about asking their users for consent has got to be the Microsoft computer set-up screen.

Every single time I'm asked to set up one drive and register and a bunch of other options I'm given two choices:

Yes and Remind me in 3 days.

Bitch where the fuck is my option to say "One day the sun will expand into a red giant star. It will engulf the earth, and then all that will be left will be a white dwarf star. Over countless eons that white dwarf star will radiate away its heat into the void to become a black dwarf star. Over countless eons beyond that the matter in that black dwarf star will decay through various atomic phases and via quantum tunneling until finally all that is left is a sphere of heatless, lightless iron. That iron star may eventually fall into a black hole, where it will take countless eons more for that mass to evaporate via hawking radiation until finally it just joins the cosmic microwave background radiation until it redshifts away into nothingness. Then, countless eons more beyond that, on time scales a human being cannot even begin to comprehend, there is a chance that a spontaneous entropy decay triggered by one of the photons that once was our home star will encounter a point in space where a sponanteous entropy decrease starts a new big bang that re-creates our exact universe where everything is the same except I remember the preceding 10^10^10^10^10^10^10 yearsand in that new universe I will still say no to setting up fucking one drive."

Or you know, I'd settle for just being able to say no.

don't forget what they did to the account creation flow. accounts used to be local to the machine. you know, like a normal computer. but then they let you log into your computer with a Microsoft Account. no one wanted this, for obvious reasons. so no one did it. until they removed the local account option from the setup. now you have to log in with a Microsoft Account... unless you Know Things, in which case you would know that you could try to login with the email a@a.com and the password a, get an error, and be kicked back to the local account setup as a fallback or something. because that's obvious. that's a really clear way for users to get to the option they actually want. surely they won't remove even that weird ass workaround later on and force the user to go through multiple arcane invocations in the command prompt that even requires reboots (spoiler: they did)

i started setting up a blog on my personal site— i want to move more off social media (and more of my time off the internet, generally), especially now that being off of twitter has slowly weaned me off some of the more… let’s say addictive qualities of the platforms. i think rss feeds give me personally more a feeling of control over when i actually want to view things, so that’s what i’m aiming for.

weirdly enough tho, it’s way harder for me mentally to post there, bc it feels like it should be more important or something, which is silly. i wonder if part of it is that i (currently) can’t really post off the cuff on it, or if theres something about the way i know social media will just move past my post if ppl want to ignore it. i don’t really have a “thing” to blog about, obviously, since if you follow this you’re aware it’s mostly stream of consciousness or memes or whatever. idk! i’m interested to see how i can get past that.
