No more posting Jail for me!

After I learned everything there is about the human bone, I decided it would be more fun to blow up digital worlds.

Let me preface this by saying that I really appreciate the space folks here are building and I understand that nothing can happen immediately.

That being said, here are things I wish cohost had right now:

  • The option to just hide posts.

  • Some way to make sure that I don't see the same post three times in a row, just because someone else I follow commented on it as well.

  • A way to just mute whole accounts.

I don't do well with social media, when I don't have a lot of tools to just remove a bunch of stuff I'm not interested in seeing and so far this is basically my biggest issue I have here. Not a big one, to be honest, since most folks here are cool, but I also get easily distracted when things frustrate me and occasionally this makes browsing here more annoying than it needs to be?

Anyway, I think it would be neat to have bit more granular control over your feed, than to just straight up unfollow people when they share too much annoying stuff into your timeline, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere on the list of things to do, and all that.

in reply to @MOKKA's post:

I've seen staff comment on a few of these here and there. Collpasing/hiding individual posts definitely seems like a slam dunk.

I wonder how they're going to implement the idea of collapsing multiple shares.

Part of the philosophy is non-algorithmic feeds, so every post and every share is always in the order it was received and that order gives it context lost in algorithmically modified social media feeds. The 3rd of 17 shared technically has contextual info about why it was shared encoded into where it shows up in your feed! I don't know if they honestly are thinking that granular though, I always thought a decent workaround would be to auto-collapse all but the most recent share into single line items. So you get the history and context but pink hair anime girl doesnt destroy your feed.

I'm too technically inept to have any input here really, I just would like to not open up this site and have to scroll through four iterations of the same post, just because four people I followed have each said a sentence about it.

Maybe this is also me being only used to platforms that sort of follow the twitter model, whereas cohost overall has other things in mind.

totally, I feel the same, I hesitate to share things if I see it's gotten a lot of shares... I also hesitate to follow people if most of their feed is stuff I've already seen... which is lame! I want a clean feed and also don't want to be the reason other people's feed is messy.

I hope they come up with some good solutions soon! Definitely sounds like they're working on one, it seems to be one of the more requested features :host-love:
