Earlier this year, I occasionally saw a Muskrat swimming around in the local rich people harbor (at least what constitutes as rich people harbor over here), but it disappeared after a few weeks. I thought someone may have caught it, or something, but guess what I saw just hanging out in the sun during my walk?
Anyway, I recorded a short video of it, because it looked kind of cute.
This is not a Muskrat, but a Nutria (or Coypu). The nutria is larger than a Muskrat, but smaller than a Beaver, has white whiskers and does not use its tail when it swims. Nutrias, like Muskrats were brought to Europe for their Fur and the populations are a combination of escaped farm animals, but also some were just deliberately put out in the wild?
