MOKKA

No more posting Jail for me!

After I learned everything there is about the human bone, I decided it would be more fun to blow up digital worlds.

You should wishlist Virtue's Heaven on Steam!

And Buy GB Rober, while you're at it!

hello cohost friends! sharing this here because a lot of indie game devs are on here.

i'm involved with this redesign of the Experimental Game Workshop (formerly Experimental Gameplay Workshop), the yearly session at the Game Developer's Conference. we're explicitly trying to focus on including more types of games that were ignored by the solely gameplay-oriented nature of this session in the past. which means: weird art games, niche one-off experiments, bizarre game mods, even interesting but only tangential-to-game media.

i know plenty of you out there doing this stuff who could use more exposure. it's free to submit, so you should! the submission deadline is January 1st. more info about where to submit and the session as a whole here: https://www.experimentalgameworkshop.org/

also i should note that if you're unable to attend GDC due to travel costs or COVID stuff (100% understandable) we are doing some remote/video talks as well

Hey Ellaguro! Thank you for sharing this opportunity. The email link on the EGW's site is broken so I am asking here: can we get some clarification as to how the personal information of participants will be used? Some game devs interested in this are not in a position where they can safely share their full names or likenesses publicly. Thanks!

i will let the rest of the team know about the broken email link! there is likely more info about this on the site/forms itself but i'd say i would enter a pseudonym or preferred name in the submission form. GDC unfortunately requires more info for registration for projects that are selected - but preferred name should work fine there (or at least it has for me in the past because my old legal name used to be different from my current name). i can't 100% confirm but we would certainly try and make sure there are no issues there if it came up.

HOWEVER - this session does involve giving a talk in some form (that's the basic form of the whole session, is to give talks on a stage like GDC), which would require people to show their faces - either at GDC or in some form on video. so if there's issues with that i would say this is probably not the best fit to submit to. however there is a discord and community elements we're trying to develop more (of which there is only a brief mention on the site right now), so i would stay tuned about that in the future

Thank you, I really appreciate all the details and the prompt response! I will pass this on to the folks who were concerned. I wonder if giving a talk via a vtuber persona would be acceptable at GDC?

Either way, I'll also submit my game if I can get a video ready in time, just in case it's a good fit 🎲✨

a vtuber talk could be interesting actually! depending on what they're interested in or comfortable doing.

re: the video, just for clarification: if you're submitting a game project to talk about, you just need some video of gameplay footage and some text about what makes the game experimental. you don't need to submit an actual video of you giving a talk unless your project is accepted and you decide you're unable to attend GDC. if you submit to give a culture presentation about a general space/talk about work that isn't your own then you would need to submit some video of a talk, though.

also the email link on the website works now, in case you need any more info/need to contact people there.
