Animation Lead on Wanderstop! She/Her & Transgenderrific! Past: Radial Games, Gaslamp Games

it's very funny to me to think that on a personal level if you asked me to sum up my career in gamedev I'd say I was an animator, but in actuality it's like 7-8 years of being an animator/rigger and 2-3 years of:

  • economy balance
  • tutorial design and scripting
  • event design and scripting
  • gameplay prototyping

sometimes as an indie you're asked to stick to your one career specialty and sometimes it's like alright no one else has time to do this so you're a game designer now

i dont have a lot of different experiences to pick from but i wonder if that's just how it is in groups small enough that there just aren't enough people to specialize and cover every specific role

like im definitely spread out way more than i think most people in these kinds roles are

That intense panic!gamedesign period was a really fascinating experience in many ways (pity about the extreme stress part).

And I'll say, I was/am super impressed with how you picked up Lua in like 2 seconds and could hash out coherent mechanics super quickly. ( ... So much iteration ...)

I hear ya! Got into this thing doing pixel art, of all things, then ... a bit of everything in the end, somehow. (I do still miss managing people, actually. It was intensely nerve-wracking from the angle of 1. being a huge introvert and 2. I have no idea what I'm doing, but it was really rewarding to see/help people grow in their work/career and make amazing stuff. ... I sure don't miss the extreme stress part of that though!!!)

I feel like maybe it's a good thing that I've forgotten most of the details that caused me to manifest a white streak through the middle of my eyebrow in the middle of CE development, haha. And man yeah. It's funny because our lua stuff got the MOST iteration while a lot of things that probably desperately needed it more got caught up in the code mines

And IMO you were as good as a manager as one could have hoped for for their first industry job! I'm really grateful for the experience tbh
