Starting my new crusade that every game should have some form of brewing in it. Ideally unnecessarily realistic beer or wine. I don't actually drink but I've become obsessed with these games and let's be real: the space is so unexplored. Think of all the weird fucking yeast and sources of sugar you could be collecting in fantasy games. Maybe you use the power of a neutron star to crush your grapes. It enhances the flavour. IT WOULD BE GREAT

It’s true, every time I’m drinking a beer Aura asks me about the style and the ingredients/brewing technique. Feels like it’s the kinda thing where there’s a ton to get interested in even if you don’t consume the end product yourself

It's true.... I'm perhaps more succeptible to this type of interest than most because I love crafting games and I love unnecessarily detailed simulations and this is an excellent intersection of the two

In case anyone is curious, some recommendations:

I'd love to hear if anyone else has favs that aren't on this list

Yeah, it's a resource management VN I'm starting to prototype in twine/js.

The PC gets conscripted into running a Canteen in the post-apocalyptic wastes by a trio of superorganisms, each one representing a form of culinary/agricultural fermentation. Siffany, who is sort of a sheet ghost but with a burlap sack, represents yeasts and starts you or with bread but eventually gets you brewing, is the idea

I'm (never making meaningful progress towards) a game all about living deep in the woods and performing acts of witchcraft to assist the (animal) residents of the area. Potion making was a regular part of the loop (in my mind).

Glad there is interest.

does Sakuna Of Rice And Ruin count? One of my fav shmup devs made a game where you have to learn how rice paddy farming works, in order to power up your character with increasingly kickass rice

I haven’t actually played it, but I saw a ton of people saying it’s really good?
