I have a hard time figuring out what games this would actually work out well for.
Best I can come up with is early access games that don't want to mess up their day one sales/ reviews when they launch For Real on Steam, but even then that seems kind of like a stretch.
Yeah that's the one use-case I can think of. But I feel like you can similarly use itch for that purpose.

You totally could, but there is a whole class of developreneurs who really want to stay on Steam/EGS for some reason.
literally went on a rant about this on discord earlier. i can't BLAME devs who take this dogshit offer but they should know that it's absolutely not gonna bear fruit ahead of time...
