- surprisingly interesting narrative ideas
- combat's perfectly solid but I feel like the skill system requires way more energy and time investment than it's worth
- repetitive, mazelike dungeon design was a real drag
- crafting ends up being very tedious
- weirdly has a stronger back half than front half
- nightmare of a 5-phase final boss kept me up way too late at night
overall I feel like this game is probably the weakest ys I've played (for context, I've played 6 and origin) but it's still a good game, I just really like both 6 and origin a lot more. "weak for ys" is still probably decently strong by other games' standards.
I'm going to be curious to see where 8 goes since I've heard it's apparently very good? But I think I'm going to play Celceta next.
