For reasons I'm not entirely clear on, the game's translation trends "basically fine" but then very occasionally you get something like this, where one item in a set is well phrased and the next item in the same set is complete nonsense. Or a line that describes something laying on the ground as "falling there". I'd be fascinated to know what exactly the loc process on this thing was.

It's still perfectly playable, thankfully. The important stuff is usually correct, or at least correct enough to be parseable.

I can at least glean the "falling there" example is likely 落ちている which can mean either "is falling" or "has fallen" depending on context. I don't want to assume anything yet but that does sound like a mistake machine translation would make...

I'm feeling pretty confident that the main plot had a much higher quality proofread after playing it for a few hours. It's generally 100% solid, whereas the major errors tend to be in tutorials and item descriptions. (Very common: Translating terms as different words in tutorial vs UI, and names in UI being phonetic translations - like leaving "Sangetsusei" untouched in map names but translating the thing it's referencing as "Three Fairies" in plot scenes)

I frequently have those kinds of mistakes come up when using translation apps most certainly..... it's as if they had an actual translator come in and do half the work, then ran everything else through Google TL.... or even, maybe they did Google TL then made a localizer come in to clean things up....? I would say either way it's a weird, obvious corner-cutting way of doing things I'm not used to seeing... unless it's a common practice in the industry I'm not aware of, to use machine TL to create placeholder text. That just sounds like a bad idea no matter how you slice it, though...
