twitter's slow, weird demise has provided what may be the first opportunity in many teens' and 20somethings' lifetimes for them to reset their identity and recover from being Annoying Kids

twitter was kind of unprecedented in that it truly allowed you to dig up absolutely anything on anyone, even if it was a post that was 10+ years old. I think about what i was like when I was a kid, and you know what? I was incredibly annoying as a child. Like. I don't think I would be able to stand kid me now. Even early-20s me held a lot of uninformed opinions that I've rejected simply by virtue of being a lot fucking older and figuring shit out.

So there's something kind of nice in thinking that a lot of people in younger generations will finally get a chance to like... do that. Move on. have their past be forgotten. It used to be normal! It's probably healthy. I'm glad for them

yeah i think "save out the full archive of your account so you have it around and can search it if you ever want a time capsule / see what you said about random thing" + "lock/delete your current account to deny current twitter ownership the value of having it online + deny snoopers the ability to search your distant past" is the clear win-win path here.

God, yeah, related to my other reply, the handful of times someone recognized me as an old BnG mod they usually added, "oh I hope you don't remember what an annoying teenager I was" and the answer is always, "of course I don't, and even if I did I'd be too busy being horrified at what an annoying teenager I was to care."
