I took a single week of work to give myself a break from debugging and take a vfx training class, and boy, technical cgi learning courses have not changed in the slightest in the last 20 years huh
- hope you set up 20 software programs and their prereqs in advance
- video of a guy fiddling with settings on something for 15 mins with the remark "you have to play with it to get it right" with zero explanation of underlying creative goals or motivations in doing so
- video of a guy who already set up everything in advance and just walks through the nodes one at a time like "uhh so this is to account for this edge case" with no previews or glimpse into the motivating process or reasoning
- when we get to importing the texture several key parts of the image you had us set up in the previous step are conspicuously different
- "bonus video" featuring a guy who clearly has not planned to be on video and isn't sure what he's doing stumbling through how to download and install a sync plugin that it's unclear whether the course uses
- no subtitles on anything, no syllabi or course notes on anything
how anyone escapes from this process having learned anything is beyond me
