Coming across a moment where a character really finally embraces their choices? It's such a powerful moment and I am really proud of the depiction here. This chapter was so cathartic for me in so many ways, but the biggest was this passage for certain.

Lines from Chapter 25 after the break!

She was a criminal for real now. It wasn’t just words. She wasn’t playing at being in a comic book.

She hurt that… person.

She did that willingly. It was her choice.

She could have killed him…

“Mabes! I’m sorry! You asked and I…”

“No! Relly it’s not you… I… I just need a second.” She gasped as tears streamed down her cheeks, chest heaving as she gripped the collar of her hoodie.

The knot that she held in her chest, hidden away, untied, and she sobbed aloud.

“I’d do it again in a heartbeat…”

No shame. No fear.

Just simple honest truth, and despite the warm furrows cut in her fur, she smiled as she finally understood what it really meant.

The enormity of this life she has chosen.

“I’d do it again.”
