The good: the new Venture Bros movie (which is supposed to be the series finale) comes out today. Reviews are very good.

The bad: the entire series (including the new movie coming out today) is being removed from legal streaming on 12 August (less than a month after the new movie airs)

The ugly: no one involved with the Venture Bros production was told that the ENTIRE FUCKING SERIES was being removed, so Jackson Publick found out about it from a tweet

And people wonder why piracy even is a thing.

Make no mistake, if you can rip this shit, rip it before August 12th. As I've said before...

Piracy = Preservation

There are literally TONS AND TONS OF MEDIA that is unobtainable via legal means anymore, but piracy has kept this shit alive and preserved. Any corporation that tries to finger wag at you saying not to is literally telling you to let your favorite piece of media fade into the ether, never to be seen again. Let's keep the good times rolling as they say, so those who cannot get to experience these things down the line CAN later.

I looked into buying the complete series today but it’s on DVD and not Blu-ray? Seems confounding but I’m still tempted to get it because I’ve been wanting to do a rewatch.

Honestly? I think it's best to just pirate it in the highest quality that you can and then watch on your computer or use like chrome cast or plex to stream to the tv.

Even if you buy the DVDs, from what I'm seeing some of the seasons are out of print so you'll either be buying used or buying stuff from scalpers who now know that this is the only legit way to watch the shows.

No, there’s a complete box set that’s still in print that came out like two months ago, it’s just on DVD instead of Blu-ray because it was probably cheaper to make that way. But I guess I will just stick to pirating it for quality and ease of access purposes.

Whatever fucking tax loophole is resulting in streaming services making money off removing content really oughta be closed, this shit is exhausting.

The tax stuff is COMPLETE bullshit too.

The WGA/SAG strike has had the studios claim that they cannot pay residuals on streaming because they "do not have access to the metrics to determine viewership".

So either: they are lying so that they don't have to pay residuals for anything ever put on streaming OR they genuinely can't determine it, in which case their tax claims are actually fraudulent.

As a media archiving hobbyist, this is sound advice. Adult Swim’s modern physical media releases are inconsistent and bottom-dollar. Many series’ recent seasons lack any physical release whatsoever (ATHF being most notable), or if they have one it’s a DVD-only affair (again, like ATHF).

If you can buy a physical copy new, you absolutely should. If your only other options are used copies or piracy, I’d suggest going for whatever is more convenient and higher quality for you.

Totally agreed with you Kahncub!

I've ran into this a lot recently with trying to watch old wuxia and kung-fu movies! And I remember it happening at lot when trying to watch Kamen Rider/Super Sentai back when I was active in that scene.

There's a ton of international media that has no US distribution so either you pick up a DVD from twenty years ago from the single english print ever released, or you pirate it.
