Cool tf idea: local legends tell of a mystical species of creature living nearby. Some resource harvested from this creature, maybe its fur or scales or whatever, has a magical property that many people desperately want. Only when those unsuspecting individuals seek them out for themselves do they discover the truth. Those legends were a trap, planted long ago to lure humans to these creatures, only to be changed into more of them… the only means through which the population of this strange lifeform can grow!
