Continuing my cataloguing of the various items stored in the back room of the Magic Item Shop, I’ve come across the following:
Inverted Mirror
Enchanted mirrors are a classic, and I’m sure there are quite a few back here that all do different mirror-y things. This is the first one I’ve come across, and it’s kinda neat, though maybe not particularly useful. It has a standard frame, looks like it could hang over a bathroom sink, and is otherwise unremarkable in appearance aside from its effect.
Any hue reflected in the mirror is inverted. Seems to be RGB rules, although really only the hue is inverted, not the brightness. Dark green maps to dark magenta, light red to light cyan, etc. It’s mildly offputting, I guess, but mostly just interesting? Has no other effects on its reflection or on the real world as far as I can tell.
Tiny Portal
This one feels like it should be dangerous, but I guess it’s fine. It’s a plain-looking ring, sized to fit on a human finger, but it acts as the frame of a portal to another dimension. Slipping it over your finger would place your finger in that other dimension, seemingly making it disappear from this one, and then removing the ring would bring it back.
Peering through it as best I can, it actually looks like it connects to a dimension I’ve been to before. I mean, I didn’t ever go there on purpose, nor do I recommend that anyone do, ever. It’s one of those in-between-spaces nonsense-realm eldritch-horror-y type things. You know, skies of vibrant, dark colors, choking atmosphere, gigantic entities of unknown intent, that whole deal. Having a portal there that’s just… always open… again, it seems like a really bad idea. Fortunately, though, I think pretty much all of the entities on the other side fit into the “gigantic” category, so they can’t make it through to our side via this ring alone.
… probably.
Some Purple Bookmarks
Now I know what you’re thinking. “You definitely turned into Twilight Sparkle for a bit, didn’t you, Gem?” And to that I say that in fact, I did not… but not for lack of trying!
Seriously, I tried each of the things on there. I even drank tea. I don’t even like tea! None of the instructions on these bookmarks transformed me into Twilight Sparkle upon completion. As far as I can tell, it’s actually just a really cute lyric game, and these items are not magic in the literal sense at all.
Honestly, it’s… kinda refreshing? They don’t always have to be something crazy! I’m absolutely putting these out for people to take home. Whoever put these back here, I think that’s what they would want. Kinda hope more stuff of theirs shows up here.
Anyways, that’s it for this batch! Pretty tame this time, though that ring is kinda concerning. Feel free to join in on the cataloguing effort yourself, if you wish!
