Well, you know the drill. Got some more items to talk about today. Let’s get to it!
Celebratory Calendar
A smallish paper calendar for the year of 2023. Each page is decorated with party-related imagery, like confetti and whatnot. The days up until the start of last month were all marked off with an X in pencil. None of the physical properties of the calendar or markings are magical, though the party theming is kinda strange.
Whenever someone marks that a day has passed, whether by crossing it out or through other means, an (often transformative) effect befalls this person. There are a large number of effects, and the selection seems to depend on the day of the week of the next unmarked day. I’ve spent a pretty long time testing these, and I keep finding new ones, so I’m gonna stop trying to find “all” of them. I was turned into a werewolf last Wednesday, a slime-satyr the following Saturday (yeah, like, my lower half was slime, and my ears, and I had a slimy tail, and the rest of me was human. It was bizarre), and I have honestly been too afraid to try it on a Tuesday. I don’t want to know what happens if I let it get creative…
Oh, also worth noting is that it doesn’t seem to care if you skip days, and even lets you erase and then re-mark them to activate a different alliterative effect. Any changes it imparts are also really easy to reverse. Someone clearly had fun making this one.
A Box of “Mystery Potions”
Someone left a crate of potions back here and labeled it “mystery potions”. There’s a lot of them, too, all different colors and smells. I’ll be honest, I took the whole box home right away. I can’t put these out there for anyone to grab! Who knows what they do?? Very unsafe…!
After I do some very careful testing on these potions, I’ll be, um, disposing of them myself. I’ve mostly been occupied with the calendar, though, so I haven’t tried, I mean, uh, examined any of them yet.
… They look so colorful and pretty and tasty…
Lupine Bouquet
For a second I thought someone was being cutesy, leaving me a bouquet of flowers back here. But only for a second! At first these flowers were all gray and… not exactly sickly, just dormant, in a way that seems atypical of plants. They weren’t withered, or differently textured, or closed up, or anything. Just colorless.
Then, later that night, I noticed they’d become quite colorful indeed! Mostly blues and purples, and a couple of bright red ones too. Thinking that maybe its effect would be active now, I picked it up and, well, there weren’t very many things I could try, it was just a bouquet of flowers. I gave it a tiny shake, plucked off one or two petals, poked the flowers, channeled magic energy into them… none of it seemed to really do anything.
A few minutes into this, though, I began to feel lightheaded. I set the bouquet down to take a quick break and couldn’t get myself feeling any better so I started worrying and eventually checked a mirror. I looked okay… human, at least, but something was wrong. My skin was pale, upsettingly so, and I felt quite awful, too.
I’m fine now, but it was quite distressing at the time to hear that the source of my problem seemed to be blood loss, of all things. And before I went home that night, I’m almost certain I looked back at the bouquet and noticed that the “one or two” red flowers had turned into more of a “five or six”.
They’re gone now, though. Maybe somebody took them home?
(Shoutouts to @FaeAlchemist for the second item, and @harphony for the third!)
