Discord putting a funny "haha we have loot boxes too" joke for april fools feels so genuine when the news just came out that there will be ads on there soon

FOR REAL, I really tought it was something serious, in a bad way. "Oh, they were later." Discord's joke in general (patch note and such) are just terrible since some time, they're not longer a thing that people like. I use discord by obligation because is the app, and nothing more.
They say you can turn them off, so what's even the point? Who's going to leave the ads on?
Since the system they're going with it is kind of an artificial word of mouth (stream this game to your friends for a reward), I'm not sure opting out does that much 😬
Because I never really got into playing games regularly with people I don't know, I never stopped using Skype. It never actually stopped being a good platform for calling people online. It doesn't have a billion customization options for your patreon members to gop over, but it works for calling people and sending messages. I genuinely don't need it to do anything else.
