This is a post about the making up mech pilots sideblog. In it, I discuss where i'm at right now vis a vis the blog, what I think made this a successful year, what I really liked about the blog, and what's going to happen in 2024.

I am seeing way less engagement on @making-up-mech-pilots and i am really pleased knowing that some of my "regulars" have since moved on to new pages. You and I can't keep writing Mech Pilots forever. I feel like I'm in a much better place than I was last year so it's harder for me to continuously make up the mech pilots at that pace and with that punch.

Three things came together this year for that blog imo.

  • More people started joining cohost and I think I was being touted as a cultural pillar (this is funny)
  • The Witch from Mercury Season 2, Armored Core 6, and Friends at the Table Palisade all came out this year
  • Battletech Fans are underserved.

A lot of short fiction really took off and it was great to see your work take off. It was awesome seeing somebody write something for the first time and having it do "severals". Or truly explode. People are making up their own mech pilots. They're sending them to me in asks, in the cohost tag, and I check on X once in a while to see what's being posted there too. I couldn't be happier. Shoutouts to people making up their horny-ass mech pilots. You're so real for that.

But I can't keep up anymore. The blog started as my little treat before doing my job search and now I'm deep in an internship. If I want to keep up the blog, I need to take some time melting back into my life and drinking in more art before I can make up some mech pilots that I'm really happy with.

But if there's another year of the mech, know that I will climb back into the machine.

in reply to @Scampir's post:

even the most hardened mech pilots need to have some off-duty time to be total badasses in the normal world... get that epic gamer living, and should you ever find yourself back behind that account-shaped machine's controls i trust you will remember how to operate it

Thank you for running such a fun blog! This probably won't be the end for me since I have a few drafts I never got to a finished state that I might touch up. Take care of yourself first.
