cohosters, do you have any memorable sensations that make you feel like you've just woken up from a dream when you experience them? or something that makes you feel alive and reminds you that you have a physical form? something like:

  • opening the front door and getting hit with a wall of cold air
  • turning the shower on and getting blasted with hot air
  • opening the oven and getting a rush of hot air in the face
  • grabbing something and not feeling the texture you expected
  • hearing someone yell very loudly and being reminded that there are sounds outside of your own head

one of mine below, cw for injury and blood

i had one a few of months ago where i stepped on a nail and it went through my shoe and into my foot, and i felt like i had woken up from a dream. i didn't feel it at first, in fact i only noticed it because it was driven through a board and the board was now also stuck to my shoe. something about the dull, throbbing pain and having to deal with squeezing pooling blood out of it was a reminder that yes, everything i am experiencing is real. i am awake, i'm breathing, and it kind of sucks right now, but that's alright.

When I'm waiting for the subway at this specific station and I can feel the rumble of the train approaching before I can hear it. It travels from the soles of my feet upwards, but by the time my whole body feels it, I can hear it too. Double whammy because I can tell when the train is about to burst out of the tunnel and reach the platform because it pushes the air before it, so you get a gust of wind on your face with a weird boom sound, and then the train arrives.
