Definitely fits in with original Quake, at least with what I remember about it. It is... kind of a meat grinder though, though I largely enjoyed bits and pieces of most of the maps.

I'm having to undergo a significant brain re-wiring, jumping from playing Doom for so many years, to Quake. I don't really possess the extensive knowledge that I do of that game, having to learn completely different AI, different damage thresholds for different weapons against different monsters, different movement... It's a feeling I haven't really felt in a long time, at least in the context of a game like this, and it's exciting to feel a bit out of my element again.

Can only speak for dopa at the moment, but I think a lot of its difficulty was stocked in the "gotcha!" nature of the traps, at least in the later maps. I admire it to a degree for nailing such a solid Official-ish Quake-like feel, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for in getting into Quake's custom scene. Next up for Quake posts is probably... a thread for coppertone summer jam 2 maps, or maybe warp spasm, I'm currently undecided.
