Just watched the Japanese animated television program that began airing in 2011 "Hunter X Hunter." Specifically the beginning of Season 3, the beginning of the Greed Island Arc, episodes 39-42.
I wrote the first bit in the first minute of 39, the last bit at the end of 42.
And I tell you what. My god I am so in. I am so deeply in it. This has been the highest I've been on any batch of episodes since I started watching this show. Every moment I had a smile on my face, and I was so excited to keep learning more.
I already love video games, and I love seeing what (good) shows can do with the concept. In fact, one of the few episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho I remember liking Was the video game episode, and seeing the concept fully blown out into this makes perfect sense, and was done so well. (I remember enjoying Log Horizon. Sword Art Online is hot garbage)
Togashi's clearly brought his love for explaining things and made this "video game" "world" so eloquently designed. This obviously could be a real MMORPG. The card system could easily be utilized, and the addition on the character's Nen powers meshes well to make it work in the show.
And I can't express how much I love learning about it. They went on a bad side quest! They fought a bunch of mobs! There are PKers!
And even the twist where Shalnok(?) explains that actually the game just teleports the players and somehow Nen Magic is making the whole video game system work? Beautiful!
And Ging is a video game designer!!!!
While it's sad seeing Kurapika and Leorio go, I've accepted I'm a Gon and Killua person, and seeing them interact continues to be the show's pique. And I am so excited to see what bringing in BISCUIT will do with the dynamic! Her name is BISCUIT!!!!! That's Fantastic!!!!
(although I don't really like the "she looks twelve but is technically an adult" trope. I hope I can trust Togashi to have done it well, but who can say. I can't, I haven't watched it all yet)
But he did bless me in one particular way. I thought I had seen the last of Shizuku for some time. BUT SHE'S IN THE GAME TOO! And their side quest is fascinating already!
And Anime Joker Isn't Even Here Yet!
While I generally try to avoid spoilers, if the studio decided to put these images in the intro then then I want to see them. The intro is often used as a way to show what the studio is excited about, and by god it worked on me this time. Obviously BISCUIT was going to be important but I didn't know how until the very end of 62. I'm also excited to see the Heel turn for Mr. Glasses and their stealing cards group. And, of course, pumped to see Gon and Killua Fight With Anime Joker.
I am so excited for this arc! I am so pumped! These four episodes were wall to wall banger! I am so pumped! Excited even!
