i fucking hate the "trust thermocline" thing that has caught on with some people. it is such an obnoxiously pretentious and useless term cooked up by someone who wanted to coin a buzzword to tell corporate clients so he'd sound smart and worth a hefty consultation fee. it is not only cumbersome to say and explain, it's a fucking terrible analogy. if you cross a thermocline, you can just go back up and the water is warm again, it doesn't work to describe broken trust that can't be regained and the phrase "the straw that broke the camel's back" is right there, you just don't get to sound like bill nye the malcolm gladwell guy saying it
"i can tell you why burning goodwill with your customers is bad, but first... we have to talk about parallel universes. i bill hourly, incidentally"
