and was delighted to discover he wrote a very good and funny short story. It's about a guy who reads the wikipedia page about Maoism in the middle of the night and decides to make it his whole personality.
What should he make of this? Adam needed to know, even though it was late at night, and his fiancée, Samantha, was asleep next to him in bed. It took forty minutes to read the entire Wikipedia page. And once he had, his previous ignorance of Maoism seemed impossible, since, as the article explained, and Adam accepted into his heart, Maoism was one of the most important political happenings in all of the twentieth century, the century into which Adam had been born. “Why hadn’t anyone told me?” he wondered fretfully.

this is great. and even though it is funny and it does say the word 'maoism' a lot, i feel like that really buries the lede that this is a really incisive character study of someone suffering from a pretty subtle affliction - an engagement with new ideas that always follows along the axis of what engaging with it will mean to you, your outwards character, and how it will impact interactions you will have in the future. it's a mode of thought i catch myself in as well, detrimentally. well worth a read if you're like me in this regard (derogatory)
