realising I've been reading the yinglet zh different this entire time?

Years of fucking around adjacent to linguistics circles has me used to reading it as /ʒ/ - like the j in french je - but I was in a voice call with a yinglet who was doing it as /z/ and now I'm going huh? Have I been reading them more french than necessary...

I mean postalveolar fricatives would definitely be a possible substitution too

And we already know some yinglets use alveolar plosives ("dat ting") instead, so who's to say there can't be other yinglet dialects?
