Seeing people online refering to Heidi as an anime will always give me a huge cultural wiplash.
Heidi was huge here back in the day, it's the show that my parents and then I grew up watching; it has "classic saturday morning cartoon" status in my head. So every time I see someone say "oh yeah, the anime I've watched so far this year are TTGL, Gundam, That one time I reincarnated as my drsgon sister and Heidi" my brain freezes for a sec
Haha yeah, I think that your experience is the more standard one! From what I understand it was popular everywhere but the US and UK, so the English speaking world is the outlier. But it's funny you mention Gundam, cause Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino did do storyboards for this show!
