We had a lot of animals growing up. My sister is the real animal wrangler in the family (she now has two dogs and a horse) but I collected a fair share of reptiles and other weird pets. We had three dogs, two parakeets, two rabbits, two hamsters, a turtle, a lizard, a tree frog, a hermit crab, a snail, salamanders, and a whole bunch of fish in the house by the time I was 14. (My sister's horse lived at a nearby farm.) Sadly, none of them were very long lived, so there was not a ton of overlap between them.
I think the most would have been our golden retriever Penny, our parakeet The Bird (sometimes we didn't give them real names), our hamster Hermione (sorry y'all lmfao), our white rabbit Ted, and our lizard. (Also unceremonially not named, though he lived in my room. My grandmother who hated reptiles threw him out once while cleaning my room because "he was dead" as we can see the lizard moving in the garbage bag.) So, five? Not counting fish cause I can't remember how many overlapped with these guys, nor any various bats and mice that were living in the house at any point.
We never had any cats cause both my parents are allergic and my dad really really doesn't like cats. But we always had tons and tons of feral cats hanging out by our house, much to my dad's chagrin.
