I moved to a different borough post COVID after years of being a regular library patron and for whatever reason I dragged my heels on getting a Queens library card until like last month, and now that I am back it is paying off huge fucking dividends. I forgot how much I love reading books! Actual books!! Listen I love you Archive dot org but I have never really been a ebook girl, so this is like having a vital organ back. You bet I am going to read Shirley Jackson's The Sundial. In conclusion, believe Arthur from Arthur and support your local library today.

Mine proudly brags it is celebrating 50 years of hip hop, which seems like it is protesting out of an inferiority complex to that big Jay-Z exhibit at the Brooklyn Library and all the paraphenalia they are selling around it. This is a point in QPL's favor, IMHO

All three NYC systems dropped hip hop 50 cards on the same day. (I think they planned it like that) NYPL's is styled like a mixtape, which is cute. Imo Brooklyn cards are the #3-#15 cutest hip-hop themed cards, and definitely the biggest PITA

I am pretty excited, I have been trying to get my hands on it for a while. I think We Have Always Lived In The Castle is maybe one of my favorite books? So I wanna see what this is all about.

It’s not as strong as We Have Always Lived In The Castle (which is also one of my favorite books!) but it’s a great satire of wealth and a good example of Shirley Jackson’s darkly funny and biting misanthropy.

Have you read The Haunting of Hill House or any of her short fiction? If not I’d recommend those too!

Haunting of Hill House was my entry point with her, but somehow I have never read her short fiction. I actually grew up very close to Bennington, which is where she based The Lottery on, but never have gotten around to it. Will have to remedy soon.
