I always wanted to be a mommy food blogger, honest to god.

Prepping for a Christmas party! Baked this gingerbread cake from the King Arthur book. (A favorite this year.) It required making homemade ginger syrup which reminded me, once again, that cooking with sugar on a stovetop is a nightmare. But now I can make homemade ginger ale whenever I want!*

We also made these beef/venison meatballs last minute. My great aunt used to bring meatballs made with this chili-grape jelly sauce every year, and my parents randomly had a bunch of frozen ground venison from some aquatience, so we did a twist on it with chili sauce, cranberry preserves, and lime. It's actually extremely good!

*for one more day before I leave my parent's house

Haha well we do not hunt in my family, but my parents live in an area with a LOT of hunters, so venison jerky is a not uncommon gift. I think this is the first time I can ever recall cooking with ground venison though!

does go great in chili, most of my deer went into just jerky, sausage, various soups and simply eaten like a steak (in fact, the backstrap is probably my favorite cut of meat on any animal - marinated, seared, served with ramen is incredible)
