My favorite dumb localization discourse is when someone on Twitter tried to cherry pick lines of the Trails translation.
'why did the localizers give the character with fire powers a stupid nickname like McBurn? Cringe!'
But if they played it they'd know it's not a nickname or a one off line.. His name is just McBurn.
He's also one of the canonically strongest characters in Trails so far btw.

Yep. Happens all the time. In fact I'd say a lot of the time more cringe is taken out than put in.
Trails discourse in "the fanbase" is so damn vitriolic these days. There are arguments to be made for how XSEED made Scherazard sexist for one line in Sky and how NISA picking "Beauty's Blade" as the translation for "Sword Maiden" or whatever it was (trying to find specific details on Daybreak without running into spoilers is almost impossible), but some people make it their life's mission to be mad.
Not that I'm not frustrated either, there is a bunch of gameplay text that is still comically wrong in Reverie and I get the feeling it will take them an entire year to fix it.
Yeah, there's valid criticisms to be had, and not everyone is acting as bad faith as my top example, but it's such a poisoned topic.
Fuck them. If I had fire powers I'd change my name to McBurn in a heartbeat, just so I could have the cringiest catch phrases.
You might enjoy that practically anybody with a little renown in Trails has a ridiculous title that everybody knows and name drops whenever they meet.
'ah I see the no. 1 enforcer of Ourobouros McBurn has arrived, or should I call you by your codename: THE ALMIGHTY CONFLAGRATION??'
