Does kefka's tower typically require most/all party members to be competent or can you phone it in.

In the original, you basically didn't have to train up two of the parties because you could Moogle Charm through the level and then defeat the boss with the Vanish + Doom glitch. I don't know if the Pixel Remaster retains that glitch though, in which case every party will need to be strong enough to handle a boss.
If I recall correctly, you can just go back to the start, swap characters, and clear most of it with 1 team. I remember someone did a minimum characters challenge where they described something to this effect, but I can't quite recall the details.
Yeah, once I saw you could walk back out I figured something like that could be done. I still knew of the final boss fight and thought I'd be forced to switch parties entirely for every phase. But I just kept most of my main team for all phases so it wasn't too necessary lol
