So work gives us a super cool break at the end of the year to rest and recharge. Thankful for that! I took the chance to hammer out some stuff that I have been putting on the backburner and inadvertently discovered that I had been burnt out of video games for almost all of 2023 and also re-discovered why I love them and just... found my fun again.

Alan Wake

Me and my wife sat down and finished Alan Wake finally. We were close to the end of the final act so I just wanted to close the book on this one.

wtf did I just play?

It was subsequently the most confusing but the most satisfying title I've played in a while.

Quantum Break

Following the trend and riding the wave of "I kind of understand what Remedy's going for but am hungry for a bit more," we jumped right into QB. This game was released in 2016 and a post from my friend who I got a copy for for Christmas sums it up best:

"Holy shit this game out in 2016?"

"It's punching 5 years above its weight class"

I could and probably will gush about Quantum Break in a specific post but suffice to say I finished the entire game in 2 days and don't regret it at all.

Bauldur's Gate 3

I got a Steam Deck for myself for Christmas and apparently that's the secret sauce to get me to enjoy some stuff again. Being able to just plop down and rock with my Ranger at any time is so so cool. I dumped 20 hours into it already and cleared Act 1 - lookin' forward to the rest.

WoW

I played a good chunk of WoW but didn't put as much time in it as anything else which is, I think, a good thing.

Armored Core 6

this game owns so damn hard and I regret not putting more time into it

FORGE!

I worked A LOT on FORGE over the break. I got mining implemented, fixed a whole swath of bugs, got some new art in there. Finding my groove again and really enjoying working on this.

Linux?

I switched back to Linux on my main PC, I'm going to just try to rock it the entire year now and just not update my graphics drivers since that's what ended my last run. I made a backup image of my Win11 install but I probably just won't ever need it. It's been great.

Anyway...

I'd like to play more indies this year. I definitely want to take a look at GB Rober by @MOKKA next as well as Chico and the Magic Orchards DX by @nickavv . If you haven't already, give them both a follow and definitely pick these up - there's so much love in these titles!
