So Dark Appeal just kind of happened. While writing Red and Green, I decided to throw in a reference to the lady who turned Rena into a vampire in the first place. Just made it up on the spot. But once the concept was knocking around my head, I started attaching more and more details to this hypothetical character. So by the time I was working through the third part of that story, I was sure that Rena's origin story would be next. Originally I titled it A Painting in Red and Black, to make the connection obvious. But I felt that would be confusing, and changed it at the last minute.
On Names
By the way, since it's not exactly a common name, Eulalia is pronounced yoo-LAY-lee-uh. The first 'a' can be long as well, depending on pronunciation, but this is the one Eula uses. It's a real name, and when I found it I thought it would be fun. Rena's name getting shortened into the pet name 'Wren' is one of my favorite details. The truth is, I've always thought 'Ren' would be a cool name, but as far as I know, it's not a real name (although if we're going to get into it, anything can be a name, it doesn't especially matter if it's on a list of "official" names or not). But Rena is an actual historical name, supposedly related to René. So turning Rena into Ren via a plausible bird pun was a real treat for me. And personally, I think it's cute.
On Kink
So you may have noticed that there's a lot of parallels between how Eula talks to Rena here, and how Rena talks to Sophie years later, especially in how they tease their lovers. Am I a hack with no more ideas? Maybe. But in this case I'm saying it's because Eula's seduction was extremely formative for Rena, and whether she realizes it or not, she's become a bit like her former mistress. And it should go without saying that I think it's hot. Dark Appeal is extremely indulgent for me on a personal level. I just fully embraced my own kinks and plugged them in there, which is perhaps also why it contains way more sex than the first one. So if for whatever reason (say, an assassination plot) you just had to know how to most effectively seduce me, well now you've got a guide book. I mean, really all you have to do is show some visible attraction while implying you might dom the shit out of me. Success should be nearly guaranteed, assuming I remain conscious. It helps if you're a vampire, but it's not a requirement.
Thanks!
Once again, my motivation to continue writing this salacious filth comes from your compliments. Each and every person who commented, or messaged me about Red and Green made me feel absolutely radiant. Sometimes I actually shook with joy and relief. Thank you all.
The next story might be a while in the making, but I already know the direction I'm taking it. It won't be vampires this time (sorry!), but rather medieval fantasy sword lesbians. It will also contain a trans main character, because representation is fun. Tonally, it will likely be more of a fun romance. Please look forward to it!
