Farscape is one of my favorite sci-fi shows, and I almost never see it talked about. It aired back in the (very) early 2000s, and it was produced at least in part by the Jim Henson company. That's why a lot of the aliens are cool puppets with tons of articulation and expression. It was filmed in Australia, which is why most of the aliens have aussie accents.

The actual concept of the show was to have a modern day human protagonist, in the form of John Crichton, get lost in a distant part of the galaxy, and swept up into the lives of escaped alien convicts. Farscape almost feels like the anti-Star Trek. It's universe is grungy, the main cast are a bunch of self-centered assholes, and our human hero is treated like a primitive moron. It's great.

Farscape means more to me than most shows of that era, and not just because of how cool and fun it is. My dad and I would watch Farscape together, sitting on the couch in our basement, giggling at the juvenile jokes. It's one of my best memories of him. He passed away the year after Farscape started airing, and his absence left a hole in my life that still hasn't really been filled. When I remember Farscape, I remember my dad.

Sorry to get a little heavy at the end. Farscape is genuinely great, but it can be hard to find these days. Your best bet is probably just to pirate it. I encourage you to seek it out if you can. It's criminal that it isn't held up alongside shows like TNG era Star Trek, or Stargate SG1, as a classic of TV sci-fi. It's a show worth preserving.
