and I have mixed feelings about it. Overall I liked it, but I think it stumbled in a few places. Of course I loved seeing Lelouch again, that should be no surprise. His condition at the start was really heart-wrenching, and CC's obvious care for him very touching. It also means you get to look forward to the moment when he inevitably regains his faculties and dramatically reveals that he's back! Which ended up being slightly anti-climactic. But they tried.
Most of the movie feels like the band getting back together for one more gig, and it kind of works. An element that confused me while watching, and seems kind of half-baked, is Lelouch and CC's plan to figure out the enemy geass. The exact mechanics of how CC is retaining any memory of events, or how Lelouch is eliminating possibilities, are completely vague. I suspect the writers weren't quite sure what to do with these scenes. So it's abstracted to a degree that makes it confusing.
But hey, there are some really cool non-humanoid mechs in there! Great designs. And then our two hero pilots are using these bulky, over-designed monstrosities. Maybe that was deliberate, because the end of their big fight is both of them dramatically shedding the excess armor to reveal what seemed to be the exact design of the Guren and Lancelot at the end of the show. Would have liked to just see those frames from the beginning.
Now that a new status quo has been established, I'm eager to see where the Code Geass franchise is going. I don't know if plans have been announced for another show, or more movies, but Sunrise wants this franchise to last. I'm here for it.
