winter mute is a vocaloid shoegaze producer and a unique facet of oldschool vocaloid music, being active circa 2007-2012. hes still active on twitter, but appears to be unofficially retired from vocaloid music. his last new song being Alchemy in 2012, and last EP release being Blood Color Flower e.p, a compilation of existing songs in 2015. shoegaze feels like a rare genre to find in vocaloid music, and winter mute does not disappoint! - his work is mellow, nostalgic and sorrowful. his use of miku (and sometimes luka) accents shoegaze very well, their flat and soft tuning feels especially hazy and dream-like. his lyrics are also very noteworthy to me, they're quite poetic and often lamentful, but still have a clear passion for life behind them.

Love this set, very ethereal, very emotional. I especially liked Raven and Diary. When thinking about vsynth music, my mind always jumps to electronic and pop music, so something like this is very cool.

Also always appreciate a Neuromancer reference.

those two are my favorite as well!! couldn't find a translation for raven but diary has some very sentimental, real, and bittersweet lyrics: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/diary-diary.html-0 and same, plus i really love shoegaze so it was especially a treat to find wintermute, i've never actually seen vocaloid shoegaze before! i had no idea thats what their username was referencing until i looked neuromancer up, i really like the name and was curious about what it meant, lol p.s. thanks for the little shoutout :D<3

woah these are sooooo good... very much like coaltar's more melodic and electronic gazey sound. also reminded me of this gazey miku record from earlier this year https://kinoue64.bandcamp.com/album/--33

on the topic of more obscure vocal synth producers, i came across an album by this producer (phelrot/ふぇるろっと) like in 2016 and have been entranced by it since, especially this song. it's got a rhythm like a clock mechanism. they're still active, too! https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm27482526

YOOOO these rock!!! i've especially been super curious about more vocaloid shoegaze-y stuff because i've never really heard anyone do it outside of wintermute (still gotta check out mikgazer vol.1)

and helll yessss i love finding very small/niche producers, it makes me so happy!! the song you linked is a jam and i love that its lapis too - definitely not a common voicebank :D
