It's 4:30am and I am in some kind of mood, thinking about a song I hadn't listened to in years. There's this artist called Paul Shapera, or Mocha Lab. I know next to nothing about him, except this one album he made. It's called Cthulhu: The Funksical, and it's a concept album about various of Lovecraft's creations, and it's really very funny. But the last three tracks are unrelated to that story, and entirely different in tone.
The final track is 20 minutes long. It's called A Melancholy Tale From The Icy Lands. Yall, it fucks me up so bad. It's a long journey to get there, but those last five minutes rip my heart out every time. It helps that it's also musically really well put together.
CONTENT WARNING: This song talks about child abuse.
Hey, did you know? This album also has a song about falling in love with a trans girl.
What a visionary.
