Took my first little trip over to the local creek, and loved every second of it. I really wish I had a better camera, cause it was full of wildlife, despite never being out of hearing of the highway noise.
I spotted what I think is a Great Egret and gasped when I saw her. Gorgeous bird, I love water birds so much. I saw her dive her head in for prey several times, but she didn't seem to have much luck. You'll get a tasty fish soon, sweety!
Saw a collection of fish dads presumably guarding eggs, although I couldn't see them. I can't identify the species, but they sure look like a type of sunfish. They have the typical dark spot at the end of the gill flap, red bodies with dark stripes, and the edges of their dorsal fins were lined in vivid blue. Beautiful. Later I saw a different species with a swarm of little fry! So cute.
Saw an Egyptian Goose as well! Didn't want to disturb him by getting too close, but what a striking bird! A shame they're invasive, but that's just how it is.
