social media as it stands today is like if you and your friends were having a conversation in a public place, and every five minutes some complete stranger barged in and insisted on changing the subject, contradicted you and called you idiots. You would never tolerate that in real life; why do so on the internet?

To be fair... The Internet makes removing those strangers from your space a bit more tolerable.
Also some of those strangers are nice and have nice things to say.
I've often said something along those lines. I seriously wonder how many people would gob off like they do if the person they were rolling over to 'correct' had the ability to put a pint glass through their teeth.
'By effectively removing all barriers to communcation' etc etc
no god damn it i want speed bumps on the information superhighway
