So an update on the computer stuff I was dealing with when I got back from my trip just before Christmas!
In the time since I've been using a second machine I had laying around because I thought there was a more serious hardware fault with my main desktop that I just haven't had the emotional energy to deal with. But chatting with @hooskeh the other day reminded me that two of the RAM DIMMs I had been using in my main workstation belonged to her previously and never played nice with her AMD system.
Despite the fact that I thought I had tested it, I decided "fuck it" I'm going to try the main PC again but this time with only the DIMMs I hadn't gotten from puppy and what do you know, it's stable?!
Turns out it was bad RAM the whole time! YAY! That's the easiest problem to solve!
Issue now was that my main PC had Linux on it (one of the many things I'd tried troubleshooting) and I wanted to test Windows stability, but not go through the pain of reinstalling and setting that up. SO! I stole the boot SSD from the computer I'd been using in the mean time! Got that put in and was able to use it just fine! So PC issues solved :D
I now had an interesting situation though of having two different operating systems set up on two different drives, so I went "fuck it" again and setup my boot order so now I am dual booting the system!
I'm genuinely going to try and use Linux for as much as I can because I do genuinely get so much more joy using it! (I mean just look at how cool my desktop is!!)
I'm also trying some different drawing software than Krita this time around in the form of the closed source but free forever, linux compatible FireAlpaca and so far tbh, it's really promising! Those latest 4 Freya doodles where all done in it and once I got into my groove the software didn't get in the way all the time like Krita always does for me. So yay? This might be a viable option!
Last thing in this ramble of a post, I took the opportunity as I was taking apart both desktop PCs to finally swap their CPUs as well, so I have a more powerful chip finally that is really exciting! I also stole the RAM from the other PC leaving it a shell, but now my main Desktop has 32gb of RAM and aside form having a Linux Mint boot along side windows, is back to business as usual!
This has been your semi-regular Rose talks about tech rant/ramble!
