The director's cut is basically an expanded version of the stage ending. Audrey dies after being attacked by the plant; Seymour tries to kill it but dies in the attempt; and after the cuttings go on sale, the plants go on a rampage around the world to an incredible rendition of Don't Feed the Plants.
i was obsessed with lsoh back in the day and it was amazing to finally see this
I was so excited when I found out they'd finally released it!! I've seen it in a little community theatre but I actually hadn't seen the movie before
As someone who's only ever seen the directors cut and the show on stage it's wild to me that it never made it to the cinema.
Its the neat campy bow that wraps up the end of the story perfectly!
I'd only ever seen it on stage; this is my first time seeing the movie. And yeah, it feels right - I can't imagine doing it any other way!
as a fan of monster movies, i genuinely think the "don't feed the plants" sequence might be, pound for pound, the most entertaining giant monster attack sequence that was ever made in the united states. the sheer waste of cutting a spectacle this amazing out of the theatrical version was wild
i never saw the directors cut for ages, but i always heard about it and thought it sounded so much better, and seeing it recently... to think it was COMPLETELY DONE and recorded and seems to be the most special effects heavy bit of the whole film is so crazy. definitely one of the most extremely cases of "fuck the test audience" i know about
i saw this same cut recently (on the day of the eclipse, even) and i was floored at how fun the intended ending is. we also showed the theatrical ending afterward and it pissed me off at how... short it was.
I guess if you have to do a reshoot quickly for your movie to be releasable, you probably don't get much time to do it in...
