Written text for everyday casual communication is a relatively new concept. It's not a formal letter, nor is it prose (where you can indicate mood/tone in the narritive.) :)

like different emotifons hav equivalent syntatical function but hav a different information they carry wiff it, like x3 and xP, which fur me can either replace a periof or a semicotton.
Howeffer, some emotimoms inherenfly pause longer than others in my fiew, like :O which pauses for at least twice as :o, because you're much more impressed/shocked as seem by teh much more open mouth
