The book @mint references in this blogpost reminded me of skippy jon jones, a book i didnt know about until my coworker put it up for a banned books display last month.

The book is about a siamese cat that thinks it's a chihuahua, and Skippy sorta has imaginary adventures in his room around that premise. Plot wise, the book is ok on the surface, but it has some of the worst Spanish ive ever seen which can only be accurately described as minstrel. Real "just add an O to make it Spanish" type beat.
There were Mexican and Spanish speaking children at the time who were asking their teachers if this white woman was making fun of them. I think the funniest part is the Judy thanks three women in the front of the book for her Spanish lessons, and i feel real sorry for those women tbh
