It's been kind of fun seeing FFXIV friends try out WoW more, it's been interesting to see their impressions on different gameplay aspects and comparisons.

Notable things they've liked over FFXIV:

  • Transmog system, despite little nitpicks (gold cost and being unable to unlock stuff on characters that aren't on the class it drops on)

  • Most mounts and transmog items being account wide (god ffxiv for the love of god please)

  • More unique mount design (They felt like mount diversity in FFXIV is really lacking in comparison)

  • Art direction for most areas feels stronger (They really like that most things are painted in, such as the sky and distant backgrounds.)

  • The world on the ground feels more alive (It feels nicer to actually walk through the world, even when you don't have flying)

And the things they don't like as much:

  • Weekly lockouts still being a thing for older content (God i wish they would get rid of this ugh)

  • UI customization and window scaling (Something that I thiink its being worked on more hopefully)

  • (Some) AOE's edges not being super clear

It's kind of nice seeing their insight on things!

They didn't have too much to say about the story bc a lot of them are starting from BfA onwards (since that seems to be the place they're funneling new players instead of making them level through all their expansions) But they do like the storytelling in BfA so far (aside from the war campaign stuff)

it honestly makes me so happy they're giving it a try.

Idk why but it feels like trying to get XIV players to try out WoW is like pulling teeth where i've seen more WoW players try out XIV more (Which could mostly be skewed bc of the ppl i follow. Maybe the number of people that try out the games is more even than what I percieve it as lmao) Most XIV players i've met that refuse to try it state that it "looks too ugly" but then install hundreds of mods to make their character look like a weird plastic doll so 🄓 (The only exception to this being the players that don't want to try it out bc of Blizzard, which honestly, very fair)

Regardless, im glad everyone is having fun and deals with me lore-dumping every time we run old raids LOL
