Has anyone ever written an all women Master & Commander-like, with the pedantry/detail, pomp and trappings of the original?
(like, I'd ideally want a full Aubrey-Maturin equivalent, but I'll take just one volume)
And I don't mean just Lady Pirate stories, which, yes, I've seen some before, but they aren't what I'm looking for here.
I'm talking about full on The Women Of Her Majesty's Navy and their ship as they battle the elements, the perfidious French, the stupid sexy Spanish and those dastardly scoundrels the Dutch. (Or whatever setting the story takes place in. I'm not laser focused on historical stuff. I'll take Fantasy or Sci-fi as well. Yes, I'm well aware of the framing and historical period😬of the original.)
The bonding experiences that bring the crew closer together, the blurring and erasure of class differences as they have to pull together to survive that-cruel-mistress-the-sea, the "Owly Joanie must have fallen overboard during her middle match, captain, swept away by a rogue wave. At least she'll stop hounding that nice new kid Annie, right?" of women standing up for each other.
There's just something about the microcosm of a ship at sea/submarine/spaceship that just... calls to me, like a siren, over and over again.
So... anyone have any recommendations?
Or willing to write this for me? (pretty please with sugar on top?)
