Madame Millipede was concerned. She was in the right place, even though the lounge looked like a mess. These were certainly her new coworkers. Those coworkers were extremely non-human- But they were way smaller than she remembered.
"Hey ya, Madame Millipede!"
Well, the ever-petite Guardian Princess-Moth Of Life's Veil was still short. Actually- maybe she got a few inches taller.
"Admiring the new carapace? Its actually an old one! Its not really my style anymore, but it'll do while my new one grows in." Princess-Moth blushed coyly.
Madame Millipede looked at the disorganized table littered with open pizza boxes and a salad bowl. Short, colorful humanoids with too many arms and feet crawled along the table, happily devouring the food. Instead of the Guardian Beautiful Butterfly there was a chibi caterpillar woman. The Guardian Mysterious Mothman was also nowhere to be seen. However, there was a dashing purple caterpillar devouring pizza like his life depended on it. The scene was almost adorable.
"I bet your wondering why our teammates are larva?" Princess-Moth cut to the chase "Near full party wipe. I swear- our team is treated like expendables sometimes because we're semi-immortal. We were long overdue for something like this."
Madame Millipede was still puzzled "B-but how? You have thousands of years of experience between you all!"
Princess-Moth rubbed her chin "Hostage situation. We were traded over to some state-sponsored private military group in return for civilians. We had a plan but it fell through. Most of the team took a giant laser right to the face. Ladybug, Butterfly, and Mothman reincarnated. I lost my bountiful carapace. Beelzebub somehow dodged it. Then Beezlebub and I went full sicko on the military group. Day was saved, but half the team is well- you can see them. Probably take them a year or two to be in fighting shape."
"So, Beezlebub is okay?" Madame Millipede was still dumbfounded.
"Yup! He's off handling the paperwork side of things. Turns out dying and being reborn is a pretty unusual edgecase- And all of Mothman's documents were from the early 1800s." Princess-Moth exuded an air of polite annoyance "I'm feeding the critters. They're mostly themselves. Well- when they're not hyperactive and in an eating frenzy."
The pair of caterpillar-people had discovered the salad, knocked over the bowl, and started digging into veggies, fruit, and nuts. Food bits flew everywhere. Princess-moth shifted her chair a quarter-meter away to dodge a stray tomato- only to be hit by a pistachio.
"Uhm you seem kind of busy-" Madame Millipede wasn't sure what larva-form Guardian Lucky Ladybug was up to, but she didn't need to find out "Do you mind if I start my training next week?"
Princess-moth elegantly flicked a pistachio from her carapace-hair into the garbage. "Yeah- I figured you'd say as much." In quick blur of movement she produced a rag and bucket "Going to be a while until things are closer to normal." She started to clean the lobby floor with a reluctant acceptance. "I'll just send you a message when I'm done playing uh... mom-maid?"
The caterpillar people crunched on some lettuce loudly.
"I'll be seeing you!" Madame Millipede exited quickly.
