at last, i exhale - super ecstatic to reveal after all this time my new record, "when air collapsed within", releasing october 4th through dragon's eye recordings
over the summer, i was stricken with a severe panic attack during a walk which left me breathless and laid flat on the grass as i came through the other side of it. months of irrepressible anxiety and aftershock attacks followed, derailing my life entirely as i struggled to regain control over my unsound mind. i had begun to lose hope when i found that i could no longer continue the works i had been putting together over the course of the year, unable to connect with music as an emotional buoy or outlet
"when air collapsed within" was my way of being kind to myself, rebuilding my creative confidence with patience and forgiveness. it is my darkest record yet, threatening with rumbling turbulence and blurred soundscapes where detail is obscured and worn away. each moment embodies an aspect of my experience during this time, feeling the connection to the world drift further away while crackling distortion and saturation barb like frayed, overworked nerves. presented as a single track of 8 movements to symbolise the inescapable flow of a period where time had lost all meaning. it is thus a very different sound than my prior work, but i would not be beholden to any one genre or expectation
i am incredibly grateful to yann novak for inviting me into the dragon's eye recordings family and fully embracing this with as much care and assistance as possible, and am elated to have every detail roughed up and given such tremendous depth by the incomparable lawrence english. it is not the record i wanted to make, but the one that i had to. but these opportunities would not at all have been possible without your support, and i would like to offer my thanks ahead of time if anyone wishes to add this to their upcoming bandcamp friday purchases or otherwise finds time for it somewhere down the line - both the label and myself are incredibly grateful for any listens, purchases, and shares š all purchases on bandcamp get a bonus booklet of art and liner notes featuring photography taken during a trip i had to make while still struggling through the worst of it
in addition, i would like to give a shoutout to the tireless brad rose at foxy digitalis for giving "when air collapsed within" a write-up and exclusively premiering two of the movements to his readership. if you're at all inclined, please give his site a visit and check out his immense coverage of the experimental and under-represented! if anyone would like to reach out for promotional copies of tracks to use for your online radio shows, shoot me an ask with a way i can connect directly with you
thank you as always for your hearts and ears. "no matter how far beyond reach the sun may appear beneath the horizon, a new day is never too long out"

originally, i had intended to do a little artists alley campaign for this record when it released... which is a few days after the site locks into read-only mode. since staff is no longer accepting artist alley submissions, i will have to do my last little bits of promotion on here the old fashioned way! if you have ever appreciated my work, or are just discovering for the first time, all i would ask is to give a share to help others find their way to my music while the site still draws breath. cohost has been the most successful platform for my music, and even though we shall wave goodbye to eggbug in a few weeks' time, i hope we can still walk the path of healing together. thank you so much š
